Chief Peter Bartlett reports that the Dracut Police Department arrested and charged a man in connection with a Feb. 20 shooting on Lakeview Avenue.
BRIAN MCANESPIE, AGE 23, OF DRACUT, was arrested and charged with:
- Armed Assault With Intent to Murder
- Use of a Firearm in a Felony
- Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Dwelling
On Sunday, Feb. 20, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Dracut Police were called to 1132 Lakeview Ave., for a report of shots fired. Responding officers located a 22-year-old Dracut man who was suffering from gunshot wounds and provided first aid until that man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
A search of the immediate area did not locate any suspects.
During the course of the investigation, Dracut Police detectives assigned to the case learned that several images captured at the time of the crime showed a black Lexus sedan with damage to its front passenger side driving through the area.
Following a thorough investigation, Dracut Police detectives identified MCANESPIE as a suspect, and obtained a warrant for his arrest from Lowell District Court on Thursday.
Later on Thursday, Dracut detectives and uniformed officers located MCANESPIE at his residence and took him into custody without incident. MCANESPIE was held without bail overnight, and was arraigned Friday in Lowell District Court.
At arraignment, MCANESPIE was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail, with conditions that if he posts bail he wear a GPS monitoring device, remain in his home, and have no contact with the victim. MCANESPIE is due back in Lowell District Court on April 20.
Police do not believe this incident was random, or that there is any danger to members of the general public.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
