Chief Peter Bartlett reports that the Dracut Police Department has charged a man after he allegedly drove recklessly and crossed a double yellow line multiple times before striking another vehicle head-on Friday night.
AIDEN MAGUIRE, AGE 18, OF LOWELL has been charged with:
- Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of an Open Container of Marijuana
- Marked Lanes Violation
- Failure to Wear a Seat Belt
At approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, Dracut Police received a report of a car crash in the area of 1156 Merrimack Ave. involving a Black Dodge Ram 1500 and White Honda Accord. The Dracut Fire Department and Trinity EMS responded to the scene as well.
Upon arrival, officers observed a man, later identified as MAGUIRE, with obvious trauma who had been ejected from the Dodge Ram. MAGUIRE was taken by Trinity EMS to a landing zone and then transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital.
First responders used a hydraulic tool to extricate the operator of the Honda Accord, a 24-year-old Lawrence woman. The victim was then transported to Lowell General Main Campus by Trinity Ambulance.
A preliminary investigation, including witness statements, indicates that the Dodge Ram, driven by MAGUIRE, allegedly crossed the double yellow line into the path of oncoming traffic twice to pass cars prior to striking the Honda Accord head-on. During the search of the Dodge Ram, officers located 1000mg THC cartridges.
MAGUIRE‘s male passenger, according to witnesses, also fled the scene on foot prior to officers’ arrival. Responding officers immediately set up a perimeter and began to search the area for the passenger with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, the Tewksbury Police Department K-9 unit and Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) K-9 unit. The passenger ultimately could not be located.
Police have made a request with the Massachusetts Department of Motor Vehicles to have MAGUIRE’s license status filed as an immediate threat.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Dracut Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
