DRACUT — The Dracut Police Department, with assistance from the Methuen Police Department, arrested and charged a 23-year-old Lowell man after he allegedly stole cash from a woman while demanding to get into the car she was in.
SAMEER ABDU, age 23, of LOWELL, was arrested and charged with:
- Unarmed Robbery
- Failure to Stop for Police
On Wednesday, Nov. 4, at about 8:30 p.m., Dracut Police were informed that Methuen Police were searching for a man in the area of Merrimack Avenue who had stolen a woman’s phone in Methuen.
While en route, officers learned that another woman was robbed of cash in the parking lot of a business in the 1200 block of Merrimack Avenue in Dracut.
Dispatchers provided a description of the suspect in the Dracut incident. The officers subsequently saw an individual on an E-bike who fit the description.
That individual, later identified as ABDU, accelerated onto Huron Street and disappeared into a yard. A short time later Methuen Police took him into custody just over the town line.
ABDU was arrested and charged based on information learned through an on-scene investigation. Methuen Police continue to investigate the incident in their community.
ABDU was booked at the Dracut Police Department and arraigned Thursday in Lowell District Court. He was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation, and his bail was set at $7,500 cash.
He is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 16.
These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
