Dracut Police Department Receives AAA Traffic Safety Awards
DRACUT — Interim Chief Neil Ouellette is pleased to announce that the Dracut Police Department received traffic safety awards from the American Automobile Association (AAA) last month.
The Dracut Police Department received the Northeast Silver Award in recognition for outstanding achievements in traffic safety and continuing efforts to educate and protect the citizens of the community.
Additionally, two Dracut police officers also received the AAA Traffic Safety Hero of the Year Award — which honors members of the community who contributed to the safety of the city or town during the previous year — for their work in 2015.
Officer Jake Malandrino was nominated for the award for consistently leading the department in traffic enforcement and demonstrating awareness of the importance of safety for motorists and pedestrians.
Officer Kerri Bushnell earned her award for volunteering to act as a liaison between residents and businesses within Dracut concerning traffic safety issues, which are related to speeding vehicles, the need for evaluating appropriate signage including stop signs, speed limit signs and other cautionary signage.
To address these issues, Officer Bushnell evaluates various site locations that have presented issues and makes recommendations to the Board of Selectman for appropriate remediation. Once approved, Officer Bushnell follows up with the Department of Public Works for the proper placement and installation of authorized signage and traffic controls.
“To be recognized by AAA is an honor for our department,” Chief Ouellette said. “Enhancing traffic and pedestrian safety within our community is incredibly important and something we will continue to work on with residents to ensure they are in compliance with traffic laws at all times.”
