The Dracut Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Detective Wilmer Buote to the rank of Sergeant. Detective Buote was hired in August of 2005, as a full-time officer and was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Bureau as a Detective, in May of 2008. He has worked tirelessly with other law enforcement agencies scrutinizing pawn shop data, in an effort to recover stolen property and solve breaking and entering cases within the region. Detective Buote previously served in the Army, from June of 1993 to March of 1997. During his active service he was the recipient of the following distinctions; Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Sharpshooter Marksman Qualification Badge. He was honorably discharged in 2001, after serving in the Army National Guard.
Detective Buote received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, in May of 2010. Also contained in his personnel file are a plethora of specialized training certificates with topics related to investigative training.
Detective Buote has taken the initiative to advance his training and experience within the agency by volunteering for specialty assignments, and acquiring additional responsibilities, which have benefited the entire organization. I have had the opportunity to personally observe Detective Buote in stressful situations, dealing with families of deceased victims and noted his professionalism and sincerity.
Detective Buote has a wealth of investigative experience that will be an asset on a patrol shift, responding to serious incidents and crimes of violence. He will be able to develop his subordinates, by working with them within the Operations Division. Detective Buote is a self-starter with initiative, who can impute an aggressive work ethic within the patrol force, given the number of property crimes Dracut experiences.
Sincerely,
Neil F. Ouellette
Interim Chief of Police
